Bath resealing for Boothroyd homes

How we price bath resealing

You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How easy the damage is to reach

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Boothroyd. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from photos

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any details about the material

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

About our bath resealing in Boothroyd

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint opens fully, so the seal doesn’t tear when the bath is first used. We work on shower trays & enclosures, wet rooms and basins & vanity units, and common reasons people get in touch are an untidy old seal and black mould in the sealant.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Your questions about bath resealing in Boothroyd

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

Movement is the usual cause, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We seal baths full of water.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

We always remove the old sealant completely. New silicone won’t bond to old.

What information do you need?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Why reseal now?

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Movement in the bath or tray

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you’re not left guessing. On site, it takes around two hours in most cases. We leave the room clean.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Advice

What we are called out for in Boothroyd

In time, even good sealant discolours, especially in a busy family bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all take their toll.

Look out for these signs:

  • A messy previous reseal
  • Damp near the bath
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Mould you can’t clean out
