Bath resealing for Cathays homes

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Don’t stand toiletries on the seal
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers

Avoid scraping the joints, and don’t stand bottles on the seal.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Bath resealing in Cathays without replacing anything

Preparation is everything in a reseal: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Then the fresh sealant goes on, in a neat, continuous bead. Typical jobs include sealant that’s split or lifting and silicone smeared on tiles, across wet rooms, baths and kitchen worktops & sinks.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Cathays: your questions answered

Can you quote from photos?

Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders.

Are there extra charges for Cathays?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Can new silicone go over old?

All the old sealant comes out. New silicone will not bond to old.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send photos.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

What we do, step by step

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the work takes around two hours. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

How to get a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Related advice

How we price bath resealing

We charge the same across the UK, including Cathays. What changes the price is:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether we combine several jobs

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed quote

Two or three clear photos are generally enough. Try to include:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Common problems we fix in Cathays

Even good sealant eventually discolours particularly in a well-used bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all take their toll.

Common reasons people in Cathays contact us include:

  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Gaps by the taps
  • Damp near the bath

Questions to ask before booking

  • If travel is included in the price
  • Aftercare advice
  • When it can be used again
  • How your room will be protected

Our hiring checklist

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Why us?

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Everything repaired in place
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
