Bath resealing near Chesterfield

Bath resealing in Chesterfield, done in place

A good reseal is all about preparation: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Only then does the new sealant go on, in a neat, continuous bead. Our repair technicians work on kitchen worktops & sinks, basins & vanity units and baths, and people most frequently call us about silicone coming away from the tiles and water getting behind the bath or tray.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once we’ve gone.

The process

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job normally takes about two hours for a bath. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Advice

What affects the price in Chesterfield

You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • The type of damage
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Unusual colours or finishes

Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Quotes from your pictures

You can take the pictures on your phone. Just ensure we can see:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any details about the material
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

To get a price, send two or three pictures using our quote form or ring us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Why it’s worth resealing in Chesterfield

Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, which costs far more to put right. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

What you get with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • A fixed quote before you book
  • One visit for most repairs

Signs you need bath resealing in Chesterfield

Sealant doesn’t last forever. Each shower leaves moisture and soap behind, which mould feeds on, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Unsealed corners
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What prep work is covered
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers

Our hiring checklist

Repairs by material

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Honest limits

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms

Keeping it looking good

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Air the room after use

Avoid scraping the joints, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Don’t wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Chesterfield: your questions answered

Can new silicone go over old?

All the old sealant comes out. Fresh silicone doesn’t stick to old.

Do you work in Chesterfield?

Yes, we do. Technicians travel to Chesterfield from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and we’ll quote them together.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

Is there a call-out fee?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Generally poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.
