Bath resealing in Chorlton-by-Backford

Bath resealing in Chorlton-by-Backford without replacing anything

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and resealing puts a stop to that. Whether it’s unsealed corners and leaks at the edges, we can help.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Chorlton-by-Backford and across Cheshire West and Chester.

Why reseal now?

Resealing is a small job. Putting off a reseal lets water get behind the bath or tray, and that damage costs much more to fix. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

What bath resealing costs

There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Quotes from your pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower
  • Any details about the material
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath or shower, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Chorlton-by-Backford questions

How long does resealing take?

Most reseals take about two hours. It then needs time to cure.

Can new silicone go over old?

We always remove the old sealant completely. New silicone will not bond to old.

What areas do you cover?

The whole UK, including all of Cheshire West and Chester. Send your postcode with your pictures and we’ll confirm dates.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the whole bath or shower and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

We’ll give you the curing time, typically around a day.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units

What happens on the day

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take around two hours, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

How to get a price

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

How to look after the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Air the room after use
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal

Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and clean them regularly with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Don’t wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Different materials, different repairs

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.
