Bath repair at your home in CH1

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, is repaired in place. There’s no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles are not touched, and the repaired area is colour matched so it blends in. We regularly repair cast iron enamel, acrylic and pressed steel enamel, and common reasons people get in touch are chips on the rim or sides and a chip where the taps sit.

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Plan for a few hours from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

What you will pay

Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Around Chester

We visit homes around Abbey School for Exceptional Children, Grosvenor Park and The Grosvenor Park Church of England Academy. Also close by are Queens Park High School (0.7 miles south), The Lock Keeper pub (under half a mile south-east) and St Nicholas' Chapel (within half a mile south-west). Chester has its own railway station: Chester station. Nearby you will also find Chester Castle (part) (0.6 miles south) and Countess of Chester Hospital (1.1 miles north). Open spaces near Chester include Hockenhull Platts.

How the damage happens

Rust normally starts where water sits, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Once water reaches the steel or iron, rust spreads under the enamel.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting

What affects the price in CH1

Repairs from £95. There’s no area surcharge for CH1. The price reflects:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The type of damage
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

How to get a fixed price

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

For a price in CH1, photos are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.

Small chips are quick to repair. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so it’s worth getting them done early.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
