Common questions in Croyde

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders in Croyde.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

What happens if you find more damage?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Mould needs moisture. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Bath resealing in Croyde, done in place

A proper reseal starts with removing every trace of the old silicone. Fresh sealant does not stick to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. If you are dealing with unsealed corners and damp near the bath, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

How we price bath resealing

Each job gets its own fixed price. These are the things that affect it:

  • The material
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How many areas need work
  • What kind of damage it is

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing typically costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Quotes from your pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • One picture of the whole bath or shower
  • The material, if you know it
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

What a repair cannot fix

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

How the visit works

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take about two hours for a bath, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Getting a price

Advice

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing is a small job. Leaving split or mouldy sealant can let water reach the walls and floor, which costs far more to put right. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Why book with us

  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing

Take a look at our prices page.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Open a window after bathing

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, normally about a day.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Do you need bath resealing in Croyde?

Sealant splits when the bath or tray moves, often because it was sealed while the bath was empty.

Contact us if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Gaps in the seal
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • Leaks at the edges

What your quote should include

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • When it can be used again
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
