Bath resealing in Ellwood

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

Bath resealing in Ellwood, done in place

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest, so the seal does not tear when the bath is first used. If you are dealing with stained silicone and missing sealant behind the taps, we can help.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

How it works

You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take a couple of hours, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

Advice

Ellwood questions

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

Movement is the usual cause, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We fill the bath before sealing it.

How long will it take?

Around two hours for a bath, plus curing time.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What happens after I send pictures?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Movement in the bath or tray

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Repairs by material

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Resealing in Ellwood: why it matters

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It soon peels, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Ellwood. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

What you get with us

For landlords and businesses

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Ellwood use us as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Prices and what affects them

We charge the same across the UK, including Ellwood. The price reflects:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Access to the area
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The material and finish

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before booking.
