Bath repair across GL16: what to expect

Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, typically in a single visit. Typical jobs include rust by the waste and overflow and an old repair that has yellowed or come loose, across roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel.

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take two to three hours for most chips. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Cost

Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Local landmarks in Coleford

Typical jobs here are in homes near Five Acres High School, Angel Hotel and Spion Kop Quarry, among other places. Other local landmarks include St John's C of E Academy (less than half a mile west), Church of St John (within half a mile south-west) and Royal Forest of Dean College (1.1 miles north). Further afield, we also cover the area around Dilke Memorial Hospital (4.3 miles east) and Rock Castle (under half a mile south-west). For a walk, there’s The Kymin and Prisk Wood.

Why repair rather than replace?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we will tell you.

What your quote should include

  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • What prep work is covered
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether they match the colour on site

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

What a repair can’t fix

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

What we are called out for in GL16

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On enamelled baths, any chip down to the metal will start to rust.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Rust spots around the plughole

Your questions about bath repair in GL16

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Do you cover GL16?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to GL16 for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide. Prices don’t change with location.

How do I book?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

When can you do it?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes, very frequently. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.
