Bath resealing in Fincham, done in place

We reseal baths, shower trays, basins and worktops. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, then it needs to cure. We regularly repair shower trays & enclosures, baths and kitchen worktops & sinks, and people most often call us about mould you can’t clean out and gaps in the seal.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Is resealing worth it?

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Fincham. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Fincham: your questions answered

Can you price it without visiting?

Generally, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Typically because the bath or tray moves. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How long will it take?

Usually a couple of hours, plus curing time.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Even good sealant eventually discolours particularly in a well-used bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all take their toll.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • Gaps by the taps
  • Stained silicone
  • Sealant that’s split or lifting
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray

Our hiring checklist

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

When we would advise against a repair

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • A flexing bath
  • Hidden water damage

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

The process

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. It usually takes around two hours, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Preparing for the visit

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Let steam out after showers

Good ventilation is the best protection, and wipe the joints after use.

Black mould in sealant isn’t just unsightly, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

How we price bath resealing

You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • The type of damage
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Send pictures for a quote

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Details of any past repairs

We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.
