Bath resealing near Four Throws

Bath resealing in Four Throws without replacing anything

Preparation is everything in a reseal: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Only then does the new sealant go on, as one neat, continuous bead. Common call-outs are for silicone coming away from the tiles and water getting behind the bath or tray, on shower trays & enclosures, basins & vanity units and wet rooms.

You’re covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Air the room after use
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

Four Throws questions

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Do you charge for travel?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

How long before I can shower?

We’ll give you the curing time, typically around a day.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote, normally with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Do you come to Four Throws?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Four Throws and the rest of Kent. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

How the visit works

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for about two hours for a bath from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Before we arrive

Advice

Signs you need bath resealing in Four Throws

Sealant splits when the bath or tray moves, often because it was sealed with the bath empty.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Missing sealant behind the taps

What to look for in a quote

  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • How changes to the job are handled

How to compare quotes

Why reseal now?

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Repairs by material

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • A flexing bath
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
