About our bath resealing in Greengate

We reseal baths with them filled with water, so the joint is at its widest, so the seal doesn’t tear when the bath is first used. We’re often asked to fix missing sealant behind the taps and sealant that’s split or lifting, in baths, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

How the visit works

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes around two hours, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

What bath resealing costs

Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • The type of damage
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing usually costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Send photos for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. There’s no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

What a repair can’t fix

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Materials we work on in Greengate

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Work for landlords and builders

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Air the room after use
  • Store bottles on a shelf

Avoid scraping the joints, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.
