How we handle bath resealing in Hargrave

A proper reseal starts with removing every trace of the old silicone. Fresh sealant does not stick to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. We’re often asked to fix sealant that’s split or lifting and a messy previous reseal, on basins & vanity units, shower trays & enclosures and baths.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Hargrave and across Cheshire West and Chester.

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Hargrave questions

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Cheshire West and Chester.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How do I get a price for bath resealing in Hargrave?

We give a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your CH3 postcode.

What happens if you find more damage?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

How long does silicone take to cure?

We’ll give you the curing time.

What happens after I send photos?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

How we price bath resealing

We don’t charge extra for travel to Hargrave. The price comes down to:

  • The material and finish
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Doing more than one item at once

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

How to get a fixed price

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

Send us pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in Hargrave, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

How it works

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes about two hours for a bath, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, including around the taps.

Before we arrive

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Let steam out after showers
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Don’t stand toiletries on the seal
  • Give the seal a regular clean

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Different materials, different repairs

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.
