How we handle bath resealing in Hartley

We cut out all of the old sealant, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, and that includes the awkward spots behind the taps. We work on baths, wet rooms and basins & vanity units, and common reasons people get in touch are an untidy old seal and silicone coming away from the tiles.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

How the visit works

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you’re not left guessing. On site, it takes about two hours for a bath in most cases. The room is left tidy and you will know when it can be used.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

How to prepare

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Open a window if you can
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Advice

What bath resealing costs

Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many areas need work

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Natural light rather than flash

Email us pictures of the damage and one of the entire item, with your PL3 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Keep bottles off the joints

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Why reseal now?

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Hartley. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Why us?

  • One price list for the whole UK
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • We leave the room as we found it

How to compare quotes

Your questions about bath resealing in Hartley

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working that clears as it cures.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Movement is the usual cause. We seal baths full of water.

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

How do I stop mould in sealant?

Generally poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. Mould-resistant silicone and good ventilation help.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

How long will it take?

Around two hours for a bath, plus curing time.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

When we would advise against a repair

We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • A flexing bath
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
