Bath resealing for Hillcommon homes

How we handle bath resealing in Hillcommon

A fresh seal protects your bathroom. Failed sealant lets water get where it shouldn’t, and resealing puts a stop to that. If you are dealing with an untidy old seal and damp near the bath, we can help, on wet rooms, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures alike.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s quick, tidy and protects your home. Compared with replacing, repairing typically costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

How to care for the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Air the room after use
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Store bottles on a shelf

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, generally around 24 hours.

Black mould in sealant isn’t just unsightly. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

What we can’t put right

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units

Hillcommon: your questions answered

What does bath resealing cost?

The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before.

What information do you need?

Send photos through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787.

Is the work guaranteed?

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You will get a fixed quote back. You’re under no obligation.

What we do, step by step

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you are not left guessing. Once we are there, the work takes around two hours in most cases. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

When to call us in Hillcommon

Even good sealant eventually discolours, especially in a busy family bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all take their toll.

Look out for these signs:

  • Gaps by the taps
  • Mould you can’t clean out
  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles

What to look for in a quote

  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • Aftercare advice
  • What prep work is covered

How to compare quotes

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
