Bath resealing for Jersey Marine homes

Bath resealing in Jersey Marine, done in place

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone will not bond to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. We regularly repair wet rooms, basins & vanity units and kitchen worktops & sinks, and people most frequently call us about black spots in the silicone and stained silicone.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Jersey Marine and across Neath Port Talbot.

Common questions in Jersey Marine

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

How long will it take?

A bath or shower typically takes a couple of hours. Leave it to cure before use.

Can new silicone go over old?

All the old sealant comes out. New silicone will not bond to old.

Do you cover Jersey Marine?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Jersey Marine for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Something is moving. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

How do I stop mould in sealant?

Damp is the cause. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Common problems we fix in Jersey Marine

In time, even good sealant discolours, especially in a busy family bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all wear it down.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • Gaps by the taps
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Mould you can’t clean out
  • Leaks at the edges

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

The process

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you know when to expect us. Once we’re there, the work takes a couple of hours. The room is left tidy.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Advice

When we would advise against a repair

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths

Landlords, agents and businesses in Jersey Marine

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in Neath Port Talbot and across the UK. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Open a window after bathing
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Store bottles on a shelf

Keep the room well ventilated, and dry the joints after bathing to keep mould away.

Black mould in sealant is not just unsightly, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.
