Bath resealing in Lee-on-the-Solent without replacing anything

Preparation is everything in a reseal: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Only then does the new sealant go on, in a neat, continuous bead. Our repair technicians work on baths, basins & vanity units and kitchen worktops & sinks, and people most often call us about an untidy old seal and stained silicone.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair is not always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Hidden water damage
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths

What we do, step by step

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take a couple of hours. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

How to prepare

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Getting a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath or shower, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Advice

Common questions in Lee-on-the-Solent

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send photos.

How do I get a price for bath resealing in Lee-on-the-Solent?

We give a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your PO13 postcode.

Can new silicone go over old?

Never over old. The old sealant is cut out and the joint cleaned and dried.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Mould needs moisture. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.

Can you quote from photos?

Nearly always. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

How long does a reseal take?

A bath or shower usually takes a couple of hours. Leave it to cure before use.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Aftercare tips

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Avoid scraping the joints, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Is resealing worth it?

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Common problems we fix in Lee-on-the-Solent

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning only removes the surface.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Unsealed corners
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles

Choosing a repair company

What bath resealing costs

Each job gets its own fixed price. These are the things that affect it:

  • How much damage there is
  • Access to the area
  • The material
  • Unusual colours or finishes

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from pictures

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

If you’re in Lee-on-the-Solent and want a price, photos are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.
