About our bath resealing in Matchams

We reseal baths, shower trays, basins and worktops, with mould-resistant sanitary silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours. Our repair technicians work on shower trays & enclosures, basins & vanity units and wet rooms, and people most often call us about a messy previous reseal and black spots in the silicone.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Hampshire.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Prices and what affects them

Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How much damage there is
  • Access to the area
  • What kind of damage it is

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You will see the full price before you book.

Getting a price from pictures

When you take your photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Something in shot to show the size

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Matchams questions

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

Never over old. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

How do I get a price for bath resealing in Matchams?

The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

How long does a reseal take?

Usually a couple of hours, plus curing time.

How it works

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you are not left guessing. Once we’re there, the work takes a couple of hours for most jobs. The room is left tidy.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

How to get a price

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them to us with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Don’t stand toiletries on the seal
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Dry the seal after bathing

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, normally about a day.

Reseal before water gets in. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Why reseal now?

Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why Matchams customers choose us

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Work done at your home or business
  • A fixed quote before you book
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair
