What happens on the day

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you know when to expect us. Once we are there, the work takes a couple of hours in most cases. We leave the room clean.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Bath resealing in Medstead, done in place

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and resealing puts a stop to that. We regularly repair wet rooms, basins & vanity units and kitchen worktops & sinks, and people most frequently call us about gaps in the seal and unsealed corners.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

What we can’t put right

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.
