Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Let steam out after showers

Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Black mould in sealant isn’t just unsightly, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

How we handle bath resealing in Melbourne

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone won’t bond to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. Whether it’s gaps in the seal and discoloured, yellow sealant, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there is a problem and we will sort it.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes about two hours for a bath. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We ensure the joint is completely dry.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, taps included.

Preparing for the visit

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Why it’s worth resealing in Melbourne

Resealing is routine maintenance. Leaving split or mouldy sealant can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What we can’t put right

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Hollow or loose tiles

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.
