Bath resealing in Moredun

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

Bath resealing in Moredun without replacing anything

We cut out all of the old sealant, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, including the awkward bits behind the taps. We are frequently asked to fix damp near the bath and a messy previous reseal, on shower trays & enclosures, basins & vanity units and wet rooms.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

When we would advise against a repair

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:

  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths

Repairs by material

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

What we do, step by step

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes around two hours. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We ensure the joint is completely dry.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, taps included.

How to prepare

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Why it’s worth resealing in Moredun

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is, and it protects everything around the bath. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Why book with us

  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Work done at your home or business

Landlord and trade work in Moredun

If you manage property in Moredun, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we will price them together.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, photos and access details and we’ll handle the rest.

Prices and what affects them

There’s no area surcharge for Moredun. What changes the price is:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How much damage there is
  • What kind of damage it is

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Getting a price from photos

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. It helps if you send:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Questions from Moredun

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

All the old sealant comes out. Fresh silicone doesn’t stick to old.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

Something is moving. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

Do you cover Moredun?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Moredun. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

What happens after I send pictures?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote.

How long does resealing take?

Most reseals take about two hours. Leave it to cure before use.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders.

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Let steam out after showers
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.
