Bath resealing in New Zealand, done in place
We reseal baths with them filled with water, so the joint is at its widest, which stops the new seal tearing the first time the bath is used. We regularly repair wet rooms, baths and basins & vanity units, and people most frequently call us about silicone smeared on tiles and sealant that’s split or lifting.
You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before you book.

DIY repairs versus a professional job
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.
Is resealing worth it?
Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

How we price bath resealing
There’s no charge for travel to New Zealand. The price depends on:
- Access to the area
- Unusual colours or finishes
- What the surface is made of
- How many items we do on one visit
We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.
Getting a price from pictures
Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:
- What it’s made of, if you know
- A picture taken from further back
- Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
- A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
Upload pictures of the damage and one of the entire item, with your HP19 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

What else we do in New Zealand
What we do, step by step
When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take around two hours. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.
- First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
- Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
- We dry the joint thoroughly.
- We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
- New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.
Getting ready for the visit
- Keep a parking space free if you can
- Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
- Let us know if it has been repaired before

New Zealand questions
Can new silicone go over old?
All the old sealant comes out. Fresh silicone doesn’t stick to old.
Are there extra charges for New Zealand?
Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.
Can pets and children be at home?
Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.
How soon can you come?
Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.
Do the materials smell?
Expect a mild smell while we are working.
Do you do work for letting agents?
We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.
Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?
Typically poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.
How long does resealing take?
Generally a couple of hours, plus curing time.
Aftercare tips
Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Keep bottles off the joints
- Replace the seal when mould sets in
- Ventilate the bathroom well
- Dry the seal after bathing
Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, typically around 24 hours.
Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

When we’d advise against a repair
Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:
- Gaps too big for silicone alone
- A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
- Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
Materials we repair
- Wet rooms
- Basins & vanity units
- Kitchen worktops & sinks
- Baths
- Shower trays & enclosures
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Shower trays
We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.
Sinks and worktops
Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.
When to call us in New Zealand
Sealant splits when the bath or tray moves, often because it was sealed while the bath was empty.
The most common problems we are called about are:
- Black mould in the sealant
- Unsealed corners
- Silicone smeared on tiles
- Discoloured, yellow sealant
