Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Air the room after use
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, normally about a day.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Bath resealing in Ormathwaite without replacing anything

We reseal baths with them filled with water, so the joint opens fully, so the seal doesn’t tear when the bath is first used. Common call-outs are for sealant that’s split or lifting and damp near the bath, in basins & vanity units, wet rooms and shower trays & enclosures.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

When a repair is not the answer

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Wet rooms

Repairs by material

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

How it works

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for about two hours for a bath from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We ensure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Advice

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Do you need bath resealing in Ormathwaite?

Poor ventilation speeds things up: moisture sits on the joints longer, and mould takes hold.

10 questions to ask before booking

Common questions in Ormathwaite

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Movement is the usual cause. We seal baths full of water.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

What does bath resealing cost?

The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Typically poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. Mould-resistant silicone and good ventilation help.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

Typically after around 24 hours. We will tell you the exact time.
