Bath resealing for Penrith homes

Bath resealing in Penrith, done in place

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone will not bond to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. Whether it’s gaps by the taps and a messy previous reseal, we can help.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Questions from Penrith

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Damp is the cause. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Are there extra charges for Penrith?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

What happens if you find more damage?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Something is moving. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the work takes about two hours for a bath. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Related advice

When we would advise against a repair

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Resealing in Penrith: why it matters

Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal lets water get behind the bath or tray, which costs far more to put right. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Penrith

  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off
  • Give the seal a regular clean

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, normally about a day.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

What affects the price in Penrith

We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • The material
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • What kind of damage it is

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Penrith. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A picture taken from further back

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Penrith

For anyone letting property in or around Penrith, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Send pictures for each one and we’ll price them together.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Common problems we fix in Penrith

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
