DIY repairs versus a professional job

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Bath resealing in Pool Quay without replacing anything

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and a new seal stops it. Whether it’s gaps by the taps and mould you can’t clean out, we can generally put it right, on kitchen worktops & sinks, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures alike.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once we’ve gone.

What we do, step by step

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. The job generally runs to a couple of hours, tidy-up included.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Open a window if you can

Resealing in Pool Quay: why it matters

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Honest limits

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we work on in Pool Quay

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

How to care for the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Store bottles on a shelf

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Repairs by material

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Prices and what affects them

Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How much damage there is
  • The material and finish
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Unusual colours or finishes

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed quote

You can usually get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire bath or shower, add your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Pool Quay: your questions answered

Why does mould come back so fast?

Mould needs moisture. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Do you cover the whole of Powys?

Across the UK, and that includes Pool Quay. Prices don’t change with location.

What happens after I send photos?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, so the repair is not disturbed while it cures.

Do you cover Pool Quay?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Pool Quay and the rest of Powys. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.
