How we handle bath resealing in Roach Bridge

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone won’t bond to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. If you’re dealing with water getting behind the bath or tray and unsealed corners, we can generally put it right, on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and baths alike.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

What we are called out for in Roach Bridge

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning only removes the surface.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Black mould in the sealant
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Stained silicone
  • Damp near the bath

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, normally about a day.

Don’t wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Common questions in Roach Bridge

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Movement is the usual cause, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Which areas do you work in?

The whole UK, including all of Lancashire. Send your postcode with your photos and we will confirm dates.

What does bath resealing cost?

We give a fixed quote from your photos. Send a close-up and a picture of the whole item and your postcode.

How long will it take?

Around two hours for a bath, plus curing time.

How long before I can shower?

Usually after around 24 hours. We will tell you the exact time.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

The process

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to about two hours for a bath, tidy-up included.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Ensure the area is dry

How to get a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Why it’s worth resealing in Roach Bridge

Resealing is a small job. Putting off a reseal lets water get behind the bath or tray, which costs far more to put right. A repair generally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

What you get with us

  • Everything repaired in place
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • No extra charge for your area
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK

Read our prices page.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

What we cannot put right

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
