About our bath resealing in Sector

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint opens fully, so the seal does not tear when the bath is first used. We are frequently asked to fix sealant that’s split or lifting and black mould in the sealant, in shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & sinks and baths.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

What we’re called out for in Sector

Sealant splits when the bath or tray moves, frequently because it was sealed while the bath was empty.

10 questions to ask before you book

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

Sector questions

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

What happens next?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

Movement is the usual cause. We seal baths full of water.

When can you do it?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

What happens if you find more damage?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Can new silicone go over old?

All the old sealant comes out. New silicone will not bond to old.

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Why it’s worth resealing in Sector

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Why book with us

  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Generally one visit, start to finish
  • Technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • Fixed prices from your pictures

See our prices page.

How it works

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes about two hours for a bath, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Ask for a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

How to care for the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Open a window after bathing
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly

Use the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.
