Your questions about bath resealing in Shotton

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Are there extra charges for Shotton?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What areas do you cover?

The whole UK, including all of Flintshire. Send your postcode with your photos and we will confirm dates.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You don’t need to watch us work.

Do you come to Shotton?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Shotton and the rest of Flintshire. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we will quote them together.

What affects the price in Shotton

You will not pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The material and finish

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from photos

Before you send photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A wider photo showing the whole bath or shower
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The material, if you know it
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Upload photos of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in Shotton, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

When to call us in Shotton

In time, even good sealant discolours, especially in a busy family bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all take their toll.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Black spots in the silicone
  • An untidy old seal
  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray

Before booking anyone

  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether a trained technician does the job

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Is resealing worth it?

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

What you get with us

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

How it works

We begin by going over the job with you. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. Allow a couple of hours, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

How to care for the repair

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Keep the room well ventilated, and dry the joints after bathing.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Shotton

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.
