Keeping it looking good

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Bath resealing in Silverknowes without replacing anything

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone will not bond to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. Typical jobs include stained silicone and silicone coming away from the tiles, in basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & sinks and shower trays & enclosures.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and clear up. Allow a couple of hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. We ensure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, taps included.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Hidden water damage

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Prices and what affects them

A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We look at:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material and finish

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Send photos for a quote

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • One picture of the whole bath or shower
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The material, if you know it
  • Details of any past repairs

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and you will get a fixed quote back. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.

Why it’s worth resealing in Silverknowes

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Silverknowes. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.
