Common questions in Stubwood

What does bath resealing cost?

The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

What happens if you find more damage?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

How long before I can shower?

You will get the curing time from us, typically around a day.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. If photos don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

No, we never seal over old silicone. The old sealant is cut out and the joint cleaned and dried.

Can tenants book a repair?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

About our bath resealing in Stubwood

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone won’t bond to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. Whether it’s leaks at the edges and silicone smeared on tiles, we can generally put it right.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Work for landlords and builders

If you manage property in Stubwood, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Just send photos for each address and we’ll price them together.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Prices and what affects them

Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • What the surface is made of
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Compared with replacing, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Quotes from your photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath or shower
  • Any details about the material
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Do you need bath resealing in Stubwood?

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Gaps in the seal

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Give the seal a regular clean

Good ventilation is the best protection, and dry the joints after bathing.

Reseal before water gets in. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Resealing in Stubwood: why it matters

Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, which costs far more to put right. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

The process

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and clear up. Plan for around two hours. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Advice

Can I fix it myself?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.
