What we are called out for in The Calders

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning can’t get it all out.

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:

  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Unsealed corners
  • Damp near the bath
  • Gaps in the seal

What to look for in a quote

  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • What preparation is included
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • Who will actually do the work

10 questions to ask before you book

Bath resealing in The Calders without replacing anything

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and a new seal stops it. Our technicians work on wet rooms, baths and shower trays & enclosures, and common reasons people contact us are sealant that’s split or lifting and old sealant that looks dirty.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll come back.

Questions from The Calders

Why does mould come back so fast?

Mostly moisture and poor ventilation. Mould-resistant silicone and good ventilation help.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

Do you cover The Calders?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to The Calders from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

How much does bath resealing cost in The Calders?

We give a fixed quote from your pictures. Send a close-up and a picture of the entire item and your postcode.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

Normally about a day later. We confirm before we leave.

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

What a repair cannot fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

Prices and what affects them

Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Access to the area
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed quote

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • Any details about the material
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow about two hours for a bath from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Clear the area around the damage

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Air the room after use
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off
  • Keep the joints dry

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, and we’ll say if you need a builder or plumber.

Work for landlords and builders

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, pictures and access details.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Resealing in The Calders: why it matters

Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.
