Why it’s worth resealing in The Hyde

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Bath resealing in The Hyde without replacing anything

A good reseal is all about preparation: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Then the fresh sealant goes on, as one neat, continuous bead. Typical jobs include unsealed corners and black spots in the silicone, across wet rooms, basins & vanity units and kitchen worktops & sinks.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

When a repair is not the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Movement in the bath or tray

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

How the visit works

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will get on with it. The job generally runs to about two hours for a bath, tidy-up included.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

Different materials, different repairs

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

How to look after the repair

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Open a window after bathing

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

FAQs for The Hyde

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across Greater London.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

Do you cover The Hyde?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to The Hyde. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Can new silicone go over old?

No, we never seal over old silicone. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Nearly always. If pictures don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Do you need bath resealing in The Hyde?

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • Leaks at the edges
  • Gaps by the taps
  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant

What to look for in a quote
