Bath resealing in The Rigg

What we’re called out for in The Rigg

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • Stained silicone
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Sealant that is split or lifting

What your quote should include

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • How long it needs to cure
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price

Choosing a repair company

Bath resealing in The Rigg without replacing anything

A good reseal is all about preparation: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Then the fresh sealant goes on, as one neat, continuous bead. We’re frequently asked to fix gaps in the seal and discoloured, yellow sealant, on baths, wet rooms and kitchen worktops & sinks.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing is routine maintenance. Leaving split or mouldy sealant can let water reach the walls and floor, which costs far more to put right. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What you get with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • One visit for most repairs

Take a look at our full price list.

What we do, step by step

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job normally takes around two hours. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, including around the taps.

How to prepare

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Air the room after use

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, generally around 24 hours.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem; it shows moisture is getting in. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

How we price bath resealing

There’s no charge for travel to The Rigg. The price depends on:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The type of damage

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Send photos for a quote

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what we need:

  • The material, if you know it
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.
