How we handle bath resealing in Thorpe

We reseal baths, shower trays, basins and worktops, with mould-resistant sanitary silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, plus curing time. Common call-outs are for stained silicone and mould you can’t clean out, in kitchen worktops & sinks, baths and shower trays & enclosures.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

What we are called out for in Thorpe

Sealant does not last forever. Each shower leaves moisture and soap behind, which mould loves, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray

Why reseal now?

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. Compared with replacing, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Repairs by material

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

How to care for the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, normally about a day.

Don’t wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

How the visit works

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you know when to expect us. Once we’re there, the work takes a couple of hours. The room is left tidy and you will know when it can be used.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Advice

Your questions about bath resealing in Thorpe

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Mould needs moisture. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Honest limits

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • A flexing bath
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.
