When a repair isn’t the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we work on in Thurnby

Bath resealing at your home in Thurnby

All of the old sealant is cut out, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We reseal baths, showers, sinks and worktops, and that includes the awkward spots behind the taps. Typical jobs include discoloured, yellow sealant and sealant that’s split or lifting, on shower trays & enclosures, wet rooms and basins & vanity units.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

10 questions to ask before you book

Your questions about bath resealing in Thurnby

What does bath resealing cost?

Every job gets a fixed quote based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

How long does a reseal take?

Typically a couple of hours, plus curing time.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work that clears as it cures.

Are there extra charges for Thurnby?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Do you come to Thurnby?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to Thurnby. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How we price bath resealing

We charge the same across the UK, including Thurnby. What changes the price is:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Doing more than one item at once

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Getting a price from photos

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • The material, if you know it

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

How it works

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take around two hours. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, including around the taps.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Advice

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Dry the seal after bathing

Avoid scraping the joints, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Is resealing worth it?

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is, and it protects everything around the bath. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before booking, with nothing added on the day.
