How we handle bath resealing in Tongwell

Preparation is everything in a reseal: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Only then does the new sealant go on, in a neat, continuous bead. We are often asked to fix an untidy old seal and water getting behind the bath or tray, on kitchen worktops & sinks, wet rooms and shower trays & enclosures.

You are covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before booking.

How the visit works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes a couple of hours. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, taps included.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Advice

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, normally about a day.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

What affects the price in Tongwell

There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • How many areas need work
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Access to the area
  • How many items we do on one visit

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Tongwell. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To make it quick:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath or shower
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Signs you need bath resealing in Tongwell

Poor ventilation speeds things up: damp hangs around, and mould grows faster.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Stained silicone
  • A messy previous reseal

What your quote should include

  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What preparation is included
  • If travel is included in the price

Choosing a repair company

Tongwell: your questions answered

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Generally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Will the price change on the day?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Yes, we often do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

What do you need from me?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

What we can’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Resealing in Tongwell: why it matters

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking.
