Choosing a repair company

About our bath resealing in Townshend

A fresh seal protects your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and a new seal stops it. Common call-outs are for silicone coming away from the tiles and gaps by the taps, on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & sinks.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What we cannot put right

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Is resealing worth it?

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is, and it protects everything around the bath. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What you get with us

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Open a window after bathing
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting

Run the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem; it shows moisture is getting in. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

What happens on the day

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. Most visits take a couple of hours.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
