Bath resealing for Trub homes

Bath resealing in Trub without replacing anything

A reseal is a small job that makes a big difference. Fresh joints make the whole room look cleaner, and they protect the walls and floor. We’re often asked to fix gaps by the taps and silicone smeared on tiles, on shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & sinks and basins & vanity units.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Is resealing worth it?

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • No need to remove anything
  • No extra charge for your area
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

Trub: your questions answered

Why does mould come back so fast?

Damp is the cause. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working that clears as it cures.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed price, plus dates. You’re under no obligation.

What information do you need?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Common problems we fix in Trub

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning only removes the surface.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed:

  • Damp near the bath
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Mould you can’t clean out
  • Stained silicone

What we can’t put right

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we work on in Trub

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

What we do, step by step

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. The job generally runs to about two hours for a bath, tidy-up included.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

How to prepare

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Getting a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

What bath resealing costs

We price every job individually. The main factors are:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Access to the area
  • How many areas need work
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

How to get a fixed quote

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Let steam out after showers
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Keep bottles off the joints

Avoid scraping the joints, and don’t stand bottles on the seal.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.
