What bath resealing costs

You will know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is
  • How easy the damage is to reach

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Getting a price from pictures

You can typically get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Send us photos of the damage and one of the entire item, with your DL13 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Air the room after use
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Give the seal a regular clean

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, usually around 24 hours.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Why it’s worth resealing in Unthank

Resealing is routine maintenance. Leaving split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, which costs far more to put right. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

How the visit works

Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes around two hours, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, taps included.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Repairs by material

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Unthank questions

When can I use the bath after resealing?

Normally about a day later. We confirm before we leave.

Can new silicone go over old?

We always remove the old sealant completely. New silicone won’t bond to old.

What areas do you cover?

All of County Durham, and the rest of the UK. There is no extra charge for travel.

What information do you need?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the whole bath or shower and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. If pictures do not show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it typically saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we’ll quote them together.

Do you work in Unthank?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Unthank. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.
