Different materials, different repairs

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Bath resealing in Wool, done in place

Baths, trays, basins and kitchen worktops all get resealed using mould-resistant silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, plus curing time. If you are dealing with mould you can’t clean out and stained silicone, we can help.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

For landlords and businesses

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Wool: your questions answered

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Do you cover Wool?

We do. We send a technician to Wool for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

How long does silicone take to cure?

We will give you the curing time.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Will there be a smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

We always remove the old sealant completely. New silicone will not bond to old.

How do I get a price for bath resealing in Wool?

Every job gets a fixed quote based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. It generally takes a couple of hours, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

How to prepare

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

What affects the price in Wool

Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The material and finish
  • What kind of damage it is

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Getting a price from photos

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Do you need bath resealing in Wool?

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

People generally call us after spotting one of these:

  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • An untidy old seal
  • Unsealed corners

What your quote should include

  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • Who will actually do the work
  • How soon you can use it again
  • How to care for the finish

Choosing a repair company

Is resealing worth it?

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why us?

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms

Can I fix it myself?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.
