Repairing versus replacing in Treknow

Swapping a coloured suite for a white one means new sanitaryware, a plumber and a tiler. Resurfacing changes the colour without taking anything out. Prices start from £350. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Treknow

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • Generally one visit, start to finish
  • Colour-matched on site

Coloured bath resurfacing in Treknow without replacing anything

Most suites take one or two days. We resurface the bath, basin and tray in place, so there is no plumbing or tiling. We work on coloured basins, avocado, pampas and pink baths and coloured shower trays, and people most often call us about a suite that doesn’t match a new bathroom and faded or patchy colour.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Treknow as everywhere else we work. Treat it like any resurfaced bath: gentle cleaners, no suction mats.

The process

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we’re there. We protect the area first, then the work takes a day or two, depending on how many items. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease everything and fix chips.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new finish in white or your chosen colour.
  5. Each item is left to cure, normally ready the day after.

How to prepare

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Related advice

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Treknow: your questions answered

Is a repair better than a new one?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Do you charge for travel?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

What does coloured bath resurfacing cost?

Resurfacing from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

How do I book?

Send photos through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Can you turn my avocado bath white?

Yes. It’s resurfaced in white where it stands.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • The inside of a toilet bowl, unless we’ve agreed it will last
  • Items cracked right through
  • Fittings and taps (these are masked, not recoloured)

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Coloured shower trays
  • Avocado, pampas and pink baths
  • Whole bathroom suites
  • Coloured basins

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Common problems we fix in Treknow

Avocado, pampas and pink suites were everywhere in the 70s and 80s, and many are still sound. It’s usually the colour that dates them, not the condition.

Look out for these signs:

  • Selling or letting a home with an old suite
  • Faded or patchy colour
  • A dated coloured suite you’d like in white
  • A suite that does not match a new bathroom

What your quote should include

  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • What prep work is covered
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • When it can be used again

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Treknow. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • One picture of the entire suite
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

If you are in Treknow and want a price, photos are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.
