How we handle wood floor repair in Shaw Mills

Laminate swollen by water cannot be repaired, and we’ll be honest about that. We repair damaged boards in place, with the colour and grain matched by hand. We work on solid wood, engineered wood and wood-effect vinyl (ask us), and common reasons people get in touch are gouges from moving appliances and burns.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before booking. Use felt pads under furniture and wipe up spills promptly.

Shaw Mills questions

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. If there’s more, we’ll tell you before starting.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

Which areas do you work in?

Everywhere in the UK, Shaw Mills included. There is no extra charge for travel.

Do I need to move furniture?

Just around the damaged area.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Landlord and trade work in Shaw Mills

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a board frequently means lifting boards to reach it, sourcing a matching board and laying it all again. Repairing it leaves the floor down. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

The process

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a few hours, including clearing up.

  1. First the damaged area is cleaned.
  2. Dents, chips and gouges are filled.
  3. We level the repair to the board surface.
  4. We match the colour and grain by hand.
  5. We finish the repair to match the sheen of the floor.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Ensure the area is dry

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • How much damage there is
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
