How we handle non-slip bath coating in Spelter

The coating is clear and textured, so the bath looks much the same. It suits older people, families and holiday lets. Whether it’s safety for older or less mobile people and a bath or tray that is slippery when wet, we can normally put it right, whatever the material.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before booking. Clean with a soft brush and a mild cleaner. Avoid scourers on the coating.

When to call us in Spelter

Baths and trays are made smooth so they’re easy to clean, but wet, soapy surfaces are slippery. The textured patch on an older bath also wears down over time.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • A bath or tray that is slippery when wet
  • Safety for older or less mobile people
  • Worn-out textured areas
  • Bath mats that harbour mould or get forgotten

How to compare quotes

Spelter: your questions answered

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Spelter. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that is in the quote.

Can you price it without visiting?

Generally, yes. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

What information do you need?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we will do the rest.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Prices and what affects them

Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many areas need work
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Send pictures for a quote

You can take the photos on your phone. Make sure they show:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Where you are, by postcode

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures using our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Surfaces that are already damaged or peeling (these need repairing first)
  • Textured areas still wet or recently cleaned with oily products
  • Outdoor surfaces

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Wet room floors (ask us)
  • Enamelled baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Resurfaced baths
  • Shower trays

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

What we do, step by step

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. It normally takes a few hours, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First the standing area is cleaned and degreased.
  2. Next we mask off the area.
  3. We apply the clear textured coating.
  4. The masking comes off to leave a neat edge.
  5. Once it has cured, normally overnight, it’s ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

For landlords and businesses

If you manage property in Spelter, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send pictures for each one and we’ll price them together.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Why repair rather than replace?

Instead, you could go for replacing the bath or tray with a textured one, or a bath mat that needs lifting and cleaning. A non-slip coating adds grip to the bath you have. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.
