About bath repair in CA13
A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and the bath is back in use the day after. There’s no need to book a plumber or tiler, because the bath doesn’t move. Common call-outs are for damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and deep scratches in acrylic, in cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic.
On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take two to three hours for most chips. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.
- We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
- The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
- We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
- Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
- Once it has cured, generally by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

When we’d advise against a repair
Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:
- Metal that has corroded all the way through
- Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
- A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
How the damage happens
Acrylic baths that crack nearly always have a support problem. Loose legs, no proper cradle or a floor that gives let the base flex until the acrylic gives way.
Clients typically contact us about:
- Chips on the rim or sides
- A kit repair that didn’t last
- Scuffs and scratches in the surface
- Cracks in an acrylic bath
Aftercare tips
Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:
- Store metal items away from the bath
- If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
- Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
- Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
There’s nothing special to do after a repair, just sensible cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams and rinse after use.
If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.
Repairs by material
Pressed steel
Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.
Acrylic
Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
Repair or replace?
Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in one visit.
Questions to ask before you book
- How to care for the finish
- How long the guarantee is and what it covers
- When it can be used again

Questions from CA13
Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?
In most cases. Send us a photo of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.
Do you hold any accreditations?
Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.
Do the materials smell?
There may be a mild smell during the work that clears as it cures.
Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?
In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.
Will you leave a mess?
No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.
Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?
In most cases. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.
