Our bath repair service in DE5

Most of our bath repairs take a few hours, and the bath is back in use the day after. You won’t need a plumber or tiler, because nothing is disconnected. Common call-outs are for holes from dropped items and rust spots around the plughole, in pressed steel enamel, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic.

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, do the job and clear up. Plan for a morning or an afternoon from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Cost

Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Around Ripley

Locally, our jobs take us to homes close to Swanwick Hall School, All Saints' Church and The White Lion pub. Nearby too are Ripley Junior School (less than half a mile south-west) and Mill Hill School (0.5 miles east). For rail, the closest station is Ambergate station, roughly 3.3 miles west. A little further out are Ripley Hospital (less than half a mile west) and Codnor Castle (2 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Wyver Lane Nature Reserve.

Repairing versus replacing

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. Typically it does not: a proper repair gives it years more use, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement.

What your quote should include

  • How long it needs to cure
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • What protection goes down before work starts

How to care for the repair

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Work for landlords and builders

For anyone letting property in or around DE5, we will quote for several properties at once. Send photos for each one and we will come back with a combined price.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

DE5: your questions answered

What do you need from me?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the whole bath and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do you charge for travel?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Usually, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a photo.

Can you price it without visiting?

Generally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.
