Bath repair across DG8: what to expect
We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. We are frequently asked to fix holes from dropped items and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, on cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths.
Once we are through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.
- We protect the bath and the floor around it.
- We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
- We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
- We match both the colour and the shine.
- We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.
What you will pay
Prices start from £95. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
Why book with us
- One price list for the whole UK
- Fixed prices from your photos
- Generally one visit, start to finish
- Straight answers about what a repair can do
Ask for a price

What’s near Newton Stewart
Locally, our jobs take us to homes close to St John's United Free Church and Douglas Ewart High School and the streets around them. Further afield, we also cover the area around Machermore Castle (0.8 miles south-east) and Newton Stewart Hospital (0.6 miles south-west). The countryside around Newton Stewart includes Larg Hill and Wood of Cree RSPB reserve.
Common problems we fix in DG8
Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water collects there, so chips nearby rust quickly.
Look out for these signs:
- Chips under the taps
- A chipped rim or side
- Chips caused by builders
- An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
Repairing versus replacing
A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, the panel may not fit the new one, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that.
What your quote should include
- What aftercare is recommended
- How your room will be protected
- Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
- How the colour is matched
DIY repairs versus a professional job
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
Composite and resin
Composite baths are dense and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.
Honest limits
We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:
- Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
- Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
- Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
DG8 questions
Do I need to be at home?
Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.
Do the materials smell?
A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.
Can you do more than one item on the same visit?
Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.
What about rust by the waste?
Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.
Will the price change on the day?
The price is fixed for what the photos show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.
Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?
Typically, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.
