Bath repair across G15: what to expect

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. Typical jobs include a chipped rim or side and rusty patches near the plughole, on whirlpool & spa baths, roll-top & freestanding and cast iron enamel.

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the following day.

What you will pay

Our bath repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

What’s near Drumchapel

Typical jobs here are in homes near St David's Parish Church and Knightswood Secondary School and the streets around them. Drumchapel has its own railway station: Drumchapel station. Nearby you’ll also find Braehead (2 miles south) and Drumchapel Hospital (under half a mile north-east). Open spaces near Drumchapel include Kilmardinny and Castle Hill.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

When a repair is not the answer

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A steel bath rusted through

Common problems we fix in G15

Rust tends to begin where water collects, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Once water reaches the steel or iron, rust spreads under the enamel.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Chips under the taps
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail

Why repair rather than replace?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we’ll tell you.

Can I add another job to the visit?
