How bath repair works in IP13
Most of our bath repairs take a few hours, and the bath is back in use the next day. You won’t need a plumber or tiler, because the bath does not move. Typical jobs include holes from dropped items and damage beneath the taps, across roll-top & freestanding, cast iron enamel and whirlpool & spa baths.
On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take a morning or an afternoon. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.
- First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
- Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
- We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
- We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
- Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.
Prices in IP13
Prices start from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.
Why choose Surface Doctor
- One visit for most repairs
- One-year guarantee on every repair
- No need to remove anything
- CHAS and Constructionline accredited
How to get a price
You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.
What’s near Framlingham
Around Framlingham, we work in homes near Railway Inn, Thomas Mills High School and Framlingham United Free Church. A little further out are Lanman Museum (less than half a mile north-east) and Framlingham Castle (under half a mile north-east). For a walk, there is Framlingham Mere.
Keeping it looking good
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Don’t leave a fresh chip for long
- Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
- Rinse it down after each bath
- Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.
Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, so water cannot get in. Remove it before the repair.
Should you replace it?
Replacing a fitted bath generally means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair fixes just the damaged area in one visit.

Can I fix it myself?
For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Composite and resin
Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.
Acrylic
Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.
Honest limits
It helps to know what we can’t do too:
- Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
- A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
- A steel bath rusted through
IP13 questions
What information do you need?
A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.
Do you come to IP13?
We do. Technicians travel to IP13 from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.
Can I get a quote without a visit?
Generally, yes. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.
Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?
Often, if there’s access underneath. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.
Will the repair show?
We aim for a repair you cannot easily find. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath.
Will there be a smell?
Expect a mild smell while we’re working, which fades afterwards.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.
