Our bath repair service in PL15
It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Our repair technicians work on pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel, and common reasons people contact us are a kit repair that didn’t last and damage beneath the taps.
The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes two to three hours for most chips. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.
- We protect the bath and the floor around it.
- The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
- Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
- Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
- We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, normally the day after.
What it costs in PL15
Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
Why book with us
- Everything repaired in place
- Every repair guaranteed for a year
- Colour-matched on site
- One visit for most repairs
How to get a price
There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.
Landmarks near Launceston
In Launceston, that means homes near Church of St Mary Magdalene, Launceston College and Bakers Arms Public House and the streets around them. Other landmarks nearby include Lawrence House Museum (less than half a mile north) and Launceston Castle (within half a mile north-east). Open spaces near Launceston include Armstrong Wood.
Repairs by material
Cast iron
Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.
Acrylic
Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
When we would advise against a repair
To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:
- A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
- Metal that has corroded all the way through
- A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
Repairing versus replacing
Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, a new panel is often needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. A repair skips all of it.
What your quote should include
- What preparation is included
- How the colour is matched
- What happens if they find more damage
- What the guarantee covers, and for how long
For landlords and businesses
We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we’ll arrange it.
Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.
Looking after it afterwards
Nothing complicated is needed:
- Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
- Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
- Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
- A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
A repaired bath needs no special treatment. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners.
Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.
PL15 questions
Is a bath repair permanent?
Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.
Is there a call-out fee?
We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.
Will the repair show?
We aim for a repair you can’t easily find. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference.
Are you accredited?
We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
Can rust on a bath be repaired?
Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.
