About bath repair in PL30

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Our repair technicians work on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and whirlpool & spa baths, and the jobs we see most are deep scratches in acrylic and a chipped rim or side.

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the damage, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

What you’ll pay

Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim typically crack when it comes out, a new panel is frequently needed, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. A repair skips all of it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • If travel is included in the price
  • How soon you can use it again
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • Whether a trained technician does the job

DIY kit or professional repair?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We price every job individually, from your photos. What matters most is:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material and finish
  • How many items we do on one visit

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for PL30. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How to get a fixed price

When you take your photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any details about the material
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

When a repair is not the answer

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

Look after the repair the same way as the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Every use opens the crack a little more, and water can get through to the floor below.

PL30 questions

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Most of the time. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so access behind the panel is important.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

What happens next?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote and the next dates we have.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes, we do this often. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.
