How bath repair works in PR0

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. Our repair technicians work on whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding, and people most often call us about hairline or through cracks in acrylic and rust spots around the plughole.

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to a few hours, depending on the damage.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

What you will pay

Prices start from £95. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

Honest limits

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

Signs you need bath repair

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Rusty patches near the plughole

FAQs for PR0

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, so the repair is not disturbed while it cures.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Frequently, if there’s access underneath. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Frequently, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a photo.
